Recently TJ Maxx opened up next door to the Hokua at Ward Center in Honolulu. Originally, Whole Foods was supposed to move into this new structure which includes a large, much needed parking garage, but plans had changed after many construction delays. I was fortunate enough to go in and do some shopping while TJ Maxx had been open only a few days. From Auahi Street, the main road the runs through Ward Center, the TJ Maxx store is a little hard to spot because it is not on the ground floor, but up on the second floor. And from the street a pedestrian must find the stairs as the main entrance which has escalators and elevators is inside the parking garage. So, it can be a little confusing for those of us who choose to walk to get around. Besides, it hardly makes sense to drive from the Hokua to the TJ Maxx.
Once inside, I was pleasantly surprised with the space. I am sure it is the same as many TJ Maxx stores across the US, but it was very clean, neat and organized. The deals that were there were fantastic, better than what I usually find at the Nordstrom Rack which is a block away. It was great to find deals across many price ranges too, from Fendi purses costing thousands to Ralph Lauren slippers for $5. I truly hope the selection continues to be as widespread as what is currently represented as well as maintaining such a clean and organized store.
This is just the latest addition to the Ward Center after Men’s Warehouse opened a spacious store near the the Ward Theaters. Coming soon is a Bed, Bath and Beyond store supposedly opening next to the TJ Maxx store.
